Does your husband ever annoy you?

Seriously. Does he ever get under your skin for doing absolutely nothing? Some days all the man has to do is BREATHE and I want to smack him upside the head. Other days I want to kick him in the balls at just the site of his face. Is this mean? Probably. Don't lie. YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

Ok, don't get me wrong, I love my husband dearly. He is my partner in crime, my BFF, my rock and all those mushy sappy things. Tonight I'm exceptionally annoyed with him because he won't go get me a Sonic sundae. Yes, I'm dead serious. I'm about .4 seconds away from stomping my feet and whining, but LG is asleep to I'll refrain from stooping to that level.

Anyway, I know everyone single women reading this knows exactly what I'm talking about. When all the little endearing things that our husbands did when we weren't married now irk us to the point of making our skin crawl. Someone told me that's what you know you're really married. SMH.

Now..... to get in the car and get myself ice cream or to eat the Ben and Jerry's in the fridge.

Fighting like a girl part II

Once upon a time I blogged about my fight with endometriosis here.

Talking about my fight with endometriosis openly and candidly is sort of hard considering the main subject matter: periods. Considering, though, that is is a mommy blog, I'll assume that my average reader is in-fact a mommy and will not have any issues reading about what happens to me once a month. If you do have issues with menstrual cycles, ovulation and maxi-pads, I suggest you skip this post :)

The last time I posted about my Endometriosis was March, which was four months ago. A lot can happen in four months, especially in the world of one with a progressive disease. I've noticed that pain with ovulation is becoming stronger and more pronounced. I can basically tell which side I'm ovulating from any given month and it feels like that damn egg is covered in spikes and heads down my fallopian tube at 90mph with no breaks. This month was exceptionally bad and I had a hard time standing at work. Thankfully that pain only lasted about 24 hours. My actual cycle was an entirely different story. This month my appetite was zip. I was sick to my stomach and wanted to walk around with my hands on my crotch like a 3 year old who has the pee because the sensation that my uterus was going to fall out between my legs was RIDICULOUS.

So that brings me here. To the situation that I am currently in. Do I run back to my doctor and beg for another lap or not? Do I wait and continue on with the pain (and with every period endometriosis has the probability of becoming worse) so I can stay with my plan and reach my goal of nursing Layla until she is one? Do I wean her and just control the pain with birth control until we're ready to try to conceive again? The questions, unfortunately, are endless and confusing and straight up frustrating. I'm not a big fan of this place that I always seem to end up in, but I'm used to it - this has been the way my health has played out for a quite some time. Sucky as it is, I have to move on and figure out what the F I'm going to do - even though I honestly have no.freakin'.idea. My last surgery was major - the top of my rectum was shaved off because it was fused to my uterus and I'm not sure I want to risk that again, but I don't want to give up nursing. Oh, look its a rock! and a hard place. Yipyip.

Anyway, I'm sure time will tell, as every month is a different story. I think my next step will be to contact my doc and tell him what the story is and see what the old man says. In the mean time, I leave you with this:

Annoyed

Breastfeeding. It's a personal choice and a choice that should be respected.

At this point I probably have your attention, and let me say this before I continue: I respect and appreciate a mother's decision to breastfeed OR formula feed OR supplement. Each and every baby is different, and while I will always feel that breast is best there will always be circumstances that may prevent a mother from doing so, and I can understand that. (p.s. I had a severe allergy to the proteins in my own mother's milk & was formula fed. I can appreciate a colicky baby, as I was apparently hellacious as an infant :o) )

Ok - so this afternoon at work a gentleman made a comment that really hit a nerve. I could very well be taking this out of context, but he said in a very sarcastic tone, and I quote, "Oh, yeah. I'd give anything to sit next to a nursing mother." Now, I work for an airline (and a very popular one at that), so of course he wouldn't want to get stuck on a 2.5 hour flight next to a mother who is only trying to feed her child. God.for.bid. The naivety of his comment made my blood boil, but alas, I was at work so I had to keep my mouth shut.

While out and about I've gotten quite a few looks from random strangers while nursing Layla. 9 times out of 10 I will find a place off in the corner somewhere so I can nurse quietly and privately so as not to make anyone barf up their tacos; & I remember trying to be polite once and going out of my way to sit at the far end of a room when some asked me 'what do you have under that blanket?' REALLY? A freakin' puppy you nitwit. Unfortunately that is not always possible, so I toss on my cover and go about my business. Besides, I'd assume that someone would rather look at my pretty nursing cover (and knowing my boob is exposed underneath) vs listening to Layla scream her head off in hunger.

There is such a negative connotation that comes along with public breastfeeding. Within today's society, and despite breastfeeding becoming more popular (for lack of a better word), it is still somewhat of a taboo. Mom's who educate themselves on breastfeeding know the endless benefits, but there is still a mainstream thought process that does not support mom's who do chose to attach their babe's to the breast.

All I know is this guy was lucky that I wasn't another passenger on his flight. If I was and had heard him, I probably would've whipped out my left one and nursed sans cover. But that's just me.

And if you are a momma-to-be who wants to nurse or a new mommy who is nursing THIS website is an amazing resource.

p.s. sleep update: Layla is sleep 8pm-5am pretty much every.single.night. WHATWHAT! :)

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day, everyone! I hope you all are spending it outside with family, friends, burgers & beer! LG and I spent the afternoon with Mr G before he had to go to work (:( sad face), then went to my BFF Caroline's house for some yummy burgers.

We're settled in at home now and I'm hoping that Layla sleeps through the fireworks going on outside. Next year we'll hit the beach for an old fashion fireworks show, but this year since LG is so small, I though it best to relax at home :)

BUT, she did of course were the *cutest* dress ever:

LG, Mommy, Aunt Becky, Aunt Caroline & future Uncle Phil (Caroline's fiance).

Happy Fourth of July :)

Flashback Friday - "Wait, is this...YES IT IS!"

Another blog I read, The Heir to Blair, hosted a Flashback Friday today. Sitting here I decided just the picture I was going to post. I knew EXACTLY the one. The picture from circa 1988 where I was dressed as a witch complete with green face makeup sitting on my grandmother's next-door neighbor Gracie's stoop eating a vanilla dixie cup from the ice cream guy named Wes who gave my mother vanilla dixie cups, which means he has to be from sometime during B.C. The picture is TOTALLY fitting because I was singing Defy Gravity from Wicked all.day.today (which is only like the coolest Bway play. Ever). Then I realize that the picture was in Layla's room. Layla is sleeping, so no cool witch picture - however, I bring you this gem:

Let me set the scene: This is my sister and I in NYC Christmas 2007. We stopped at the Palace Hotel from some of the best hot chocolate (can be found in the lobby) on the block. We didn't realize that Gossip Girl filmed a lot of exterior shots in the hotel's courtyard. As I walked out into the courtyard and started looking around, I turned to my sister who was still inside and screamed, "Victoria, come out here!" Before I could even finish my sentence, she screams back, "OMG, I know exactly what you are going to say!" Then we both screamed and giggled like little schools girls and galavanted around the courtyard pretending to be Blair and Serena because we are COOL LIKE THAT.

And because I love her to death, here is Victoria galavanting and clapping her hands in pure, utter excitement.

P.s. The ice cream guy named Wes is still driving around his ice cream truck serving vanilla dixie cups at the ripe old age of 102. Well, more like upper 70's, but who's counting?

Eh!?

Happy Canada Day!

Mr G is from Toronto and most of his family and close friends still live there. We haven't been since last July and are hoping to take a trip back this August for Layla's first time over the border! We can't wait :)

Happy Canada Day to our beloved Canadian family <3
